3 Row Radiator for 340 - Need Recommendation
« on: September 17, 2009 - 02:37:57 PM »
I need to get a 3 row radiator for my '70 Cuda 340 (T/A engine).  Any recommendations on where to go for one?  I contacted 1-800-RADIATOR who quoted me on a steel (like original) and aluminum.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There are a lot of choices.  Just look in the Summit catalogue for an idea.  Perhaps you could narrow it down to steel or aluminum / stocking looking and stock dimensions or something larger.  You must of course specify if you need a tranny cooler.  Do you want a stock shroud to fit or are you considering electric fan/s?  I'm assuming that with a T/A it would be as close to stock as possible in which you should be looking at Mopar reproduction rads or a restored original T/A rad.  Hope this helps a bit.

I bought a Modine a few years back for my 340 Challenger. It looks and fit just like the original.

If you want an original looking radiator, Glen-Ray should be able to help you out.  I talked to them at the Mopar Nats and they were very friendly, helpful and knowledgable.  Couldn't find a website but here is a link to their info.

I appreciate the advice and leads.  The radiator in my Cuda is a #2998948 and is not correct for my car.  I was going to go ahead and use it for now but just found out it failed a pressure test at 15 psi (small leak in a center core near top).  A couple of questions.

Is it possible to have the leaky core tube soldered up or is this not worth the effort and loss of flow, particularly if other tubes may not be far behind?

What should I expect to pay to have this re-cored?

About what is it worth in it's present condition (very clean and straight)?

The part I really need is a 2998974.

I took a picture of my factory 26" SB radiator down to OReilly's and flipped through there book unil I found what I wanted.

I'm sorry I didn't write down the application, but it was 4 row "Heat Buster" radiator for a different mopar application.  It was ~1" taller then factory, and I had to drill one new hole in the bracket, but otherwise it looked totally stock.  I just pushed it a little farther down so the top was close to the factory location and drilled the holes.

I think it was just under $200.   I never had any problems with it, which is saying a lot living here on the face of the sun.....Austin, Tx.

That price sounds very reasonable.  You don't happen to have a picture of it do you?

No price, states something about sold in store only, just call your local NAPA.  Based on what I've seen $2-300.00

Just talked to NAPA today.  They found the radiator P/N but said they could not get it anywhere.  Price would have been $404.  Good looking radiator though.

Summit carries the Proliance Ready-Rad line, although they do not list the 3-row...Call them & see if they can get a 433619

Their price on the 2-row is decent
