There is no guarantee old Musclecar prices will ever rise to what they once were. For one they make new Challengers now that some can argue are better in many ways than the originals and easier to live with. For another the people that covet the old Muclecars are an aging group (the people that grew up with them), and with the economy tanking with no hope for a full recovery for probably a decade not many will shell out ridiculous money for anything but the nicest pristine examples that they can recoup their money on with retirement staring them in the face. I think anybody plowing major money into an old Muslecar resto with hopes of even recovering their investment in the next 10-15 years are in for major disappointment. :2cents:

With that said, no way I'd part with that car if I had it.  :grinno:
Not to derail this thread, but how bad is the economy REALLY doing right now, politics aside?  I guess I'm insulated because I work in food mfg and my wife works in health care, but it seems like things have turned and worst may well be past.  What I personally SEE is that my 401(k) is up +30% this year and almost all of the For Sale signs are gone in this area.

How did you come to own the car?  Was this an obsession or did you happen upon it?  Just concerned that you might kick yourself if you dump it.  28 is pretty young.  I had mine when I was 28 and it took until I was 35 to find the right time, place, facility, money and help to get it right.  Southern Georgia means the rust probably isn't getting significantly worse.  If you don't have a loan on it, it's not costing you anything to own.

By the time you get the itch again, the market will have recovered and prices may have doubled even from a few years ago.  The $10k you get in 2009 could cost $40 -$70k to replace in 2015.
the car was given to me by my dad as a graduation present for graduating high school. he never did that so i made sure i did not that i ever planned not to. the car doesn't cost me a dime to sit in the yard it probably is going to get moved back to pops shop shortly this car is my dream car to own and it took five years to talk the guy out of it that we got it from. i will definately kick myself for getting rid of it. and i really don't want to part with it at all thats a fact!!

IMO the economy will have recovered when unemployment is not rising every month and is back down to around 5-6% and home prices (a normal persons largest investment) are back near the level they were at before. :2thumbs:

Says who ? These cars sell at a high dollar amount PERIOD. Maybe not on this site though. :2cents:
I would sell my 71 Cuda and all of the parts I have for it for $20000(I have over $25000)Tied up in it now.But That aint gonna happen :roflsmiley:

yes its supposed to be black on black 340 auto car,but the drivetrain doesn't match.
I was going with a 4spd and a 4:10 suregrip and a date correct 71 engine.

even if you get big money for it,  the money will be gone in no time and then there is no car left either....
just keep it , one day you will be ready for it and it will be there  :2cents:

It's really hard to tell what cars are worth until it sells (duh).

It needs a completely new firewall?

If so, then with new quarters, hood, trunk/extensions, parts-materials alone are gonna be ~$4k.  If you farm out the body work/paint, you're looking around $15k.  And that's probably cheap working like $45/hour.

Then you're probably looking at 2-3 years from now b/c w/o money, it will be sitting until you do.

So...keep it and drive the hell  out of it; or...

dump it and someday save for a nice solid one not needing paint/body work; maybe someone else's project that's been painted and only needing drivetrain.
