checking the water thinking of selling my cuda. tired of being broke and the car just sitting in the yard. i have a wife, a 4 year old girl and a 2 year old little boy so that leaves zero money for cuda resto. anyway it is a 71 barracuda originally hemi orange black vinyl top luggage rack hood pin bench seat black interior auto on the column car.now it is white with a 440 727. the 440 is .030 over keith black piston's brand new rebuilt 346 heads good port job with 2.14 1.81 valves. has a mopar .557 solid lift cam and iron isky rockers with the right springs. M1 single plane intake 800 holley double pumper hooker 1 7/8 headers x pipe 2 1/2 exhaust hooker aero chamber mufflers out the back thru the valance. trans is fresh with alto red clutches and kolene steels 4.2 kickdown lever modified servos and a cheetah reverse manual valvebody with a 3000 stall. new mancini driveshaft 3.91 gears and an auburn diff. has manual steering and the right column also has disc brakes and poly frontend kit. new headliner and recovered seats and a dash cover and a B&M quiksilver shifter. the wheels are weld pro stars with nearly new front tires and a pair of 275 60 nitto drag radials on the rear. the AAR hood is a cheapy i picked up at a swap meet for chump change. ok enough about the good now the bad..... it needs quarters and floors and a firewall the corners of the doors have small holes. it will need a trunk floor and extensions it has a fuel cell in it right now. the windsheild is cracked the grille is a good driver we had to reinforce the middle when i got the car but it looks good. this a complete car that will drive and should run a 7.50 in the eighth mile. it ran a 7.90 with a bad trans, higher gears and less cam a few years ago. this will kill me to let it go but by the time i can fix it there will be nothing left to fix.

was it a 318 car or /6?   Probably be around 3k-4k plus the value of your drive train   Im just guessing

it was a 318 904 car what you think all together? i was hoping 10 but the body is a little rough.

 The '71 is the most sought after Mopar in the world. Bar None.   I would start out at 20K.

     Not gonna happen and I think he knows that. But 7-8 k sounds like a lowest point in an offer

Who's gonna sink 40k in that car to try to get 50?   He said its a rust frame rail needs pans and interior car with a decent engine. There is a post going on here for a paint job only for 12k now. And he's pullin the engine and sanding to the metal.   In real world terms it just wont sell with it needing everything done to it. Not trying to offend, just looking at it in realtime.  What would make this car a 100k car with the codes it has? It's a 71 barracuda. Needing a rotis restore.  Add it up, just labor at say 70 bucks an hr for no less than 100 hrs not including material. So yer right. I won't sell here for major bucks.

71's do sell at a premium, but that will last only until a repro manufacturer LEGALLY reproduces the grill at an acceptable price.  Then, all bets are off.  I'm thinking '70 Cudas will pick up on value because of the one-year-only piece that goes under the grille.

i totally agree it's not a big bucks car. the frame is in good shape needs sheetmatal work. me and my dad have done 100% of the work on this car so i know exactly what has been done to it. the car was sprayed white ten years ago by a local body shop that is all the farm out that has been done to this car! it needs alot of work or as bad as i hate the thought it is one hell of a parts car!!! the interior isn't bad just needs fresh carpet and the bottom of the back seat done i have the vinyl for that except the sides and bottom front. i sure wish they made new cuda bodies like they do camaro's this would be the perfect car to build one of those with

How did you come to own the car?  Was this an obsession or did you happen upon it?  Just concerned that you might kick yourself if you dump it.  28 is pretty young.  I had mine when I was 28 and it took until I was 35 to find the right time, place, facility, money and help to get it right.  Southern Georgia means the rust probably isn't getting significantly worse.  If you don't have a loan on it, it's not costing you anything to own.

By the time you get the itch again, the market will have recovered and prices may have doubled even from a few years ago.  The $10k you get in 2009 could cost $40 -$70k to replace in 2015.

There is no guarantee old Musclecar prices will ever rise to what they once were. For one they make new Challengers now that some can argue are better in many ways than the originals and easier to live with. For another the people that covet the old Muclecars are an aging group (the people that grew up with them), and with the economy tanking with no hope for a full recovery for probably a decade not many will shell out ridiculous money for anything but the nicest pristine examples that they can recoup their money on with retirement staring them in the face. I think anybody plowing major money into an old Muslecar resto with hopes of even recovering their investment in the next 10-15 years are in for major disappointment.

With that said, no way I'd part with that car if I had it.
