Convertible prices
« on: September 19, 2009 - 07:53:56 PM »
Here is basicly a 70 /6 barracuda body rust free and painted , converted over to a 440-6  4 spd dana car and hadnt hit the reserve yet.  It's got about 6 hrs left on it, and I thought it would be interesting to watch and see what bids it gets at the end. He claims to have 60k in the car.   Anyone wanna wager a guess what it will sell for if it does?  Car looks really nice. Black with red interior. Arizona car

Looks nice but the guy claims it was originally a /6 with a 4 speed. Did they even make that combo? I have never heard of anything but a 3 speed manual behind a /6.

That's a nightmare waiting to happen, you can buy a completed car for what his reserve must be.  Someone is in for quite a few surprises when they try to put it back together.  It's all the "little" details that end up costing big bucks.

That car is worth maybe $20k in that condition, IMO.

The market is soft on anything >$30k on clones; even 'verts.

The guy is going to lose his shirt if he sells this for $40k, but even at that price, I think it's a decent value IF they have more restoration pics of what was done to it and not just some quickie slam bondo job.

I agree ,but i also havent seen any deals actually transpire many no sales yes, what that tells me is the market is strong .Its only when cars sell low consistently that we can say the bottom fell out. I looked at a barracuda conv on ebay unrestored sell a few weeks ago on a buy it now for 40k .

Could be, but he's right (except for the rolled up ball that DAT is selling at auction).  Verts are still commanding some pretty high bucks for anything that is still in good shape.  I personally know of a better than decent 318 Cuda that just sold for near $40K.  It's a nice driver but has not really been restored like the one being offered above.

Thought we were talking about this particular car.  I'd be willing to bet it will cost you another 20-30k to put it back together, so for $75-85k I think you can do better.

Maybe you should buy it, I'll give you 50k for it once it's complete.

There was one that was up for sale last year, 71 Challenger, 318, air, power top, power windows, console auto. It sold for 23k and looked like it was a nice driver. It was triple green but was a very nice car at a very nice price imo.
