Tube to Blade Conversion
« on: September 21, 2009 - 01:39:48 PM »
Does anyone make a blade-style fuse panel for the E-Body, or would you need to adapt a Painless kit?

When did Chrysler switch from tubes to blades?

I was looking at this. You can buy blade style fuse boxes on ebay for crazy cheap (like 10 bucks). I wouldnt go with painless or anything.   Frankly, painless stuff is waaay overpriced. Especially for mopar stuff.

you can graft in any fuse block soldering & heat shrinking
I agree that Painless & Ron Francis wiring is pretty expensive to buy & fit

Is there an advantage to switching to blade type? Is it a matter of more fused ccts to break it up into more branches?

Report is that these kits are not as slick as some of the better known harnesses out there but will get the job done for less coin.

no real advantage to blade or glass fuses
adding more circuits can be an advantage for addition accessories like EFI , electric fans or water pumps or adding a relay center for headlights & other high draw accessories as well

Performance wise, I don't see an advantage either.

I think the H&N (Year One) harness is the best way to go.

There isn't really any performance advantage, but I noticed before I rewired my entire car quite about 4 or five years ago that it is very difficult to find glass fuses.  Most gas stations and many parts stores no longer stock them.  I think they are more money too.  It is much easier to see what rating fuses are being used since they are color coded, and I feel better being able to find whatever size fuse I need virtually anywhere.

i would recommend rewiring the vehicle with an aftermarket harness, it isn't very difficult. It will also rid your electrical system from many more pitfalls than the fuse design
