Rear Window Installation Procedure Needed

Anyone have the procedure for installing the rear window on a '70 Cuda?

Do you have the sealer tape yet?  Get everything real clean so the sealer will stick and have the rear glass clean as well and then all you do is install the tape and then the window.  Hope this helps.

I don't have sealer tape.  The window channel is clean (car recently painted) and window is clean as well.  Where can I get the sealer and how is it applied.  Thanks.

Autozone should have the sealer kits you need and follow the instructions in the kits so you do not have any leaks in the window.  It is not hard.  You may want to put like a 1/4 wedge in the bottom of the channel to make it where the window will line up properly. Some of the window tape sealers have those in there.

The 70's used sealer tape?  My 73 just used black caulking(like is used on newer cars today) on the front and rear glass.  The glass is origonal and had never been out before.

That is the same thing I am talking about.  It comes in a tape form roll form  There are several things it can be called.

I thought it came in a tube and was applied with a gun.

On my '73 i bought a roll of the round 3M (5/16"?) ribbon sealer.  That is placed around the opening and the window is placed overtop.  It should rest on the 2 blocks that sit at the bottom of the channel.  You press on the glass until it seals/makes contact all the way around.

I bought the ribbon at an autoglass shop for $5 but you might be able to get it at an autobody supply specialty store.

It is the same in the front also.

You also need an etching compound to "paint" around the frame where the sealer makes contact. Do not try and put the sealer straight on to the paint. The etch I used looks like matt black paint when applied. Takes about 6 hours to dry properly. We put it on the glass as well. Makes the sealer stick to it.

Can I get the etching compound from the same place I get the sealing tape?

I didn't use any sealer - just the ribbon.  Some of the glass shops do use a brush on paint when they are using the urethane adhesive in a tube which is std stuff for many windshield installations.
