« on: September 24, 2009 - 02:07:23 AM »
So my panels are chalked off and old looking:( I was going to have them covered in vinyl and some clown quoted me 2000 yes 2000 dollars for all four! Maybe he Was going to reskin them using leather from another planet or the back of his head at that price ! Anyway how hard can it be to vinyl cover these anyone done it? I really want to get these done! :)

That also crossed my mind. My original panels (challenger) were in pretty bad shape and a I also thought that it could be a decent idea to cover them with vinyl. I was thinking of doing it by myself but there are some bit troublesome contours on the challenger panel which could lead into problems. One of them is that deep notch that goes horizontally over the panel. Since then I have tossed the idea and bought set of panels that are in better cond. I will need to redye those though.

So I have no idea about the price but I think that it should be doable but still needs some work and probably knowledge. I've never glued vinyl on anything yet.

I just replaced my panels that someone had skinned with vinyl. Looked OK from a distance. I still have them if you really want to do that?
Read this and give it a try first?

Yes, but will they fit properly?  No one seems happy with any of the aftermarket panels.

"Etek" restored his panels himself.  They won't look 100% correct but neither do Just Dashes pieces.  Here is his restoration thread on Moparts.

I'm asking because the  vinyl  wrapped door panels I took off my car are headed for the dump. If you were close enough I'd say come and get em! :dunno:

I've certainly thought about doing that myself.  I've seen it on some high end cars and it looks great, especially in leather and suede.  I've looked into it quite a bit and most suggest a faux leather because it stretches better, and to only use this glue: DAP Weldwood HHR Contact Cement.

there is a thread on here where a guy is actually doing this to his dash, but hasn't done doors yet.

Let me know if you figure out how to do it.

i called the company he got his material from and i told him i wanted it for the challenger panels, he said send him a pic and i did. he saw the panels and because of all the gaps and ridges he said it could not be done on these panels and he did not recommend them. i found a guy who has a aerosol like with a grain finish that im gonna use for my panels now but i need to get the 60 bucks for the chemicals and being that work is slow ...it really makes me think twice.  :walkaway:

hey everyone its been a long time since i updated my thread but i have yet to do my door panels just yet because im unsure if i want to keep a stock look or do something a little different.  Im also considering changing the center console a bit so it will have an armrest as well as a place up front to put my radio in.  As soon as i start working on the project again i will takes pictures and update the thread i started as i go a long.
