rear end housing
« on: September 25, 2009 - 09:43:22 AM »
Okay here is the deal, my car WAS mini tubbed.  Took everything out and replaced with new sheetmetal.  Bought an 8 3/4 housing that was supposed to have been from a Challenger.  Restored the rearend with 3.23. posi chunk, new wheel cylinders, backing plates, paint, etc.  After all this I go to put the rear end in and it is to narrow.  Center to Center on the perches is 44", my car requires it to be 46".  I don't want to move my springs.  Does anyone have a housing they can measure for me or does anyone have any idea what is up?

with the shorter diff you can use a deeper offset wheel if you are using aftermarket wheels
new spring seats are only $15 new from Mopar

Thanks Chryco, you have helped me again.  I think this is the third or fourth problem you have assisted me with.  No wonder everybody on here raves about you.  Not sure what I am going to do, I have after market wheels now but was going to use mopar rallies for it eventually.  Thanks again, Danny

You can buy offset hangers that will match up perfectly.  Many people do this to enable larger backspacing.  You've already done the hard part.  I'd just bolt in the offset hangers and you'll be set!
