Alternator Pulley - Pressed on?
« on: September 26, 2009 - 08:00:10 AM »
I need to swap out a dual pulley for a single on my alternator.  It looks like they are pressed on but before I attempted it I thought I'd check here first.

You should disassemble the alternator to press on the new pulley unless you  have an aftermarket one with a threaded shaft that can be used to pull the pulley on  (none of mine have that).  The pressure needed will exceed what the case and bearings are supposed to handle thrust-wise.  Assuming you use a press, you want to brace the opposite end of the shaft, NOT the back of the case.
