Challenger Hood Hinge Question

Hey guys,

When I shut mt 71 Challenger's hood the part of the hood closest to the windshield will raise up about and inch.  I can push it down and it will stay.  My question: is it the hinge or the spring on the hinge making it pop up.  I'm heading to Carlisle and I figured I could pick up what I need there.  Thanks

IF you adjust the hinge up. It will bring the hood down.

I think you need to rebuild the hinges.  The hood pops up when the rivets have too much space in the holes.
may look like a little play on each rivet but the springs push the rivets in one direction so that adds up...

The hinge is the problem it needs to be rebuilt or replaced.  They are bad about wearing and lettting the back side of the hood to pop up.

I've found a set made by AMD for $225.00.  Not a bad deal.

IF you adjust the hinge up. It will bring the hood down.

Before you buy more parts, make sure it isn't simply an adjustment.

You need to adjust the hood hinges on the inner fender upward, and then snug them just tight. Then lift the hood and loosen the rear bolts and rotate the hinge as viewed from the side, tighten the bolts and check the fit. Repeat until you get the alignment right.

Trust me, it sound wrong, but until I did it, the rear portion of the hood was 2 inches too high. I even slotted the holes in the hinges.

So the secret is to raise the front of the hinge on the inner fender

the teeth inside the hinge are worn out,i took mine apart and thats what i found caused my hood to rise in the back

 if you loosen the hinge bolts & have someone lift the front of the hood to rotate the hinge it will lower the rear of the hood
