I set mine so that the rear portion actually is slightly supported by the rubber bumbers on the rear of the hood when it is closed. Drivers side bumber was excellent fit in the terms of correct height but I had to remove few millimeters from the passenger side bumber to lower the hood so that it was flush with the fenders. Not sure if it is ok to do it like this, but it seems to work for me.

Neil is right, the hinges should be fine.  It is all in the adjustment 99% of the time.

I forgot to mention, we are working on Mopars here.  The hoods didn't have to be opened as much as Fords, so the hinges don't wear out as quick.   :roflsmiley:

the rivets in my hinges were worn pretty bad, which resuted in the back of the hood popping up and a lot of movement sideways.
