tried to start my engine need help
« on: October 01, 2009 - 10:34:25 PM »
Leaks and more leaks! First of all I had antifreeze coming out around the header bolt, took bolt out and it poured out! Is this normal, should I just tighten it and go from there. Leaks at the corner of the head, I have heard that once it warms up it may seal itself?? The engine was totally rebuilt by third party company. Please help!! The fuel leaks are a simple fix, these others are having me scratch my head.

Not an uncommon problem. A little thread locker on those header bolts will do the trick.  :grinyes:

It shouldn't be leaking out the headgaskets. Make sure though it's not just leaking out the end header bolts and dripping down. I always silicone those end bolts with Ultracopper. If it is leaking from the head gaskets try retorqing the head bolts.

if it has steel shim head gaskets I have seen them seep coolant until they have been heat cycled a couple of times , if you have composite gaskets & it leaks you have a problem . All the studs into the head for the exhaust go into the water jacket , if the factory studs have been removed you need to use teflon thread sealer on every bolt & or re-install new studs

Do all the bolts go in the water jacket? Having a hard time getting all of them out, headers are getting in the way!!

all the header bolts go into the water jacket , generally I leave the studs in the factory heads even with headers for this reason

Was this during the initial break in of the engine?  Did you just shut it off when the leaks started or did you keep on running?  Just curious??

No this was after I filled up the fluids that we saw we had leaks. Anyway most of the header bolts are sealed( couldn't get threee out because of the bend in the header) and the other leaks should be contained. We are planning on giving it another whirl tomorrow. Wish me luck! :2thumbs:

All is sealed and I am ready to fire her up. Still have one problem, cannot regulate my fuel down low enough. No matter which way I turn the allen screw on the regulator I still have 11 to 12 psi!!! Could it be a faulty regulator?? I will call Holley tomorrow and ask them if they have any idea's. Maybe I should look for a regulator or maybe even a pump that has a return line on it...I guess :clueless:

Any idea's????

The Holley regulator should have no problem with regulating the pump to 6 PSI , you need to back the screw most of the way out to drop pressure
