Help me Pick some Rallye Wheels.......
« on: August 16, 2004 - 03:45:58 AM »

I sent an email to a New Zealand wheels store who import wheels from Corker wheels.

He sent back a detailed page of options for the wheel choices. I have already ordered cop rims but want to make sure I have the correct backspcing this time.

What is the baclk spacing on a stock 1970 Challenger? 4-1/2"?  ??? I want 15x8" all around.

Do I want 5" back spacing or 4-1/2"?
Do I want 5-1/2" Bolt pattern or 5"?

Thanks as always,
Carl

:o Hey NZ, good question, I need the same info, been wanting to find the largest tire wheel combination for my Chally, hope you get some good information here.  :D

Since reading this post and replying, I read some other good posts on the subject, the best one being this: wheel/tire sizes, measurements, check this out and it should answer your questions.

One of the magazines (I think High performance Mopar) rip :P had their rust runner project car
with cop car wheels that they painted argent silver and put the trim rings and center cap off of
early '70's rallye wheels and it looked great

the bolt pattern is 4 1/2 on five
easily measured on your car. Take a tape measure and start on one side of the stud hole on a wheel.
Then roll the tape on the opposite side and measure to the middle of the hole
4 1/2" for mopar and ford. Early A-bodies are 4" on 5 for Mopar.

If you order the big steel wheels you start to loose performance as the wheels get heavier

360: Are cop rims heavy? Or are Rallye Rims heavier?  ???

They're gonna weigh the same but I'm talking about the custom steelies that folks are making
much wider then when they were stock.

You can get away with a wider wheel when it's a good lightweight aluminum but those extra wide
steelies are no good for performance

Like putting a doolie wheel on a Dart

I have 15x8" Cop Rims all around.  ??? :-[ If I ordered Rallye rims they'd would be the same size as my Cop Rims, my cars sits great with 15x8" on all corners.  :D 8) Looks light and ready to jump.  :)

But I'm pretty sure I'll get some rallye rims some day "soonish", I just don't want to look to VP, all I wanted was to have the ALL white look and of course that is now seen as Vanishing Point only, so I might keep the hood scoops black and put the Cop Rims on to add a touch of personality.  :) Although in saying that to drive a VP car would also be keuwl! LOL!!  ;D

Cheers 360  ;)
