If I owned an auto I would remove the slap stik & install a pistol grip with an A833 :burnout:

Hey guys, just wondering if there is more wear to the tranny if you manually shift it?  :clueless:  Any negatives?  :dunno:

I used to drive my old 5th Ave like some of you, on the column though.  Banged it into reverse at 30mph, didn't sound pretty...  :bricks1:

I could not agree more, I will eventually but it takes time and cubic dollars to get that swap done.

When I had an auto in the car it was a full manual so I had to shift it every time although I probably would have anyway. Now it has a 4 spd which is even more fun!  :burnout:

No no, but I don't mind you asking!     It will slide right up into reverse from being in gear without the button being pressed, definitely broken.  The first time I did it, I thought I ruined the tranny for sure, but I was going under 20mph.  The second time I was just going at about 5mph.   Now I don't upshift at all, until I can get if fixed.  But I downshift every stop.

Working on it! But in the meantime I use the slapstick quite a bit to upshift through the gears. Otherwise it just shifts too low in the rpm's. My shifter handle  is cracked though, so occasionally I can slap it into neutral. Not usually a big deal. I don't typically downshift it coming up to the lights though with the button, I just shift it while I'm stopped before I take off.

98% of the time, I start her in First, and slap it into second, then slap into third. Same deal stopping / slowing, I slap it down. Much better car control. Also, with a fairbanks 3500 RPM stall converter, If I start in D, its in 3rd at < 30mph, and still reving at 3500+. Prefer not to cook the 727, so I shift manualy.

Like others here, I would like to go to 4 or even 5 $peed, but just the time & money & hard to find parts. Keisler (sp?) still wants close to 5K$ for there kit!!

FYI: Never had it move more than one gear up when I slap it or just tap it. It will not go into N or R without holding the button. I also need to hold the button to go back down.
"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car. "Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car. "Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence. "Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

I've never actually had mine go more than one gear. Just every now and again I forget I'm already in 3rd and bump it again. Most times nothing happens, every now and again it shifts to neutral. But hopefully in a couple months it won't matter anymore, as it'll be a 4 speed with a pistol grip.  ;D

I am actually surprised at how many people have had trouble with their shifters. The only way mine will go into neutral is if I depress the button while the shifter is in third.

That's how it should be. Mine plays along most of the time, but the handle is cracked so sometimes it gets loose and will shift without the button. I'd buy a new one, but I'm waiting on the 4 speed conversion. Otherwise it'd be fixed. It seems like its pretty common for the t handles to crack at the mounting screw hole.

Once upon a time, when I actually drove my Challenger regularly, I used to, since the tranny was/is tired and slips in between second and third, just shift from first right into third while getting on the freeway or what not. For regular driving, I would use the slap  :burnout: for first and second up and downshifts.

Daily driving I just left it in 'D'.  When having fun I used to do the bump-up, but eased off on that when my original 'T' handle started to crack at the attaching screw.  I have a replacement (bought after taking the Challenger out of service) but it is one of the later ones with the bump on the bottom rear.  I hope to be able to repair/reinforce the original handle but will probably keep being gentle with the bump-ups once the car is back on the road.

The only time I leave it in D is if I have my girlfriend with me and my RH is busy ;) All other times I shift up and down myself. Ok except to downshift and pass on the highway, with the shift kit I have it will downshift into first at any speed. :burnout:
