AMD Challenger rear bumpers not correct yet
« on: October 06, 2009 - 08:41:46 PM »
I just received the replacement bumper from AMD.  It had the same "crown" thru the middle as the defective one I received last winter.
I emailed Alan at AMD, he looked into it, and wrote back that the test pieces were perfect, but the latest shipment was all bad bumpers apparently made on the old wrong tooling.  He will get back with me when he has the problem sorted out.
This kind of thing has got to cost them profits.  Its too bad their suppliers are hosing them.   I vote for returning work to U.S. workers.

there has been other threads on this and is a known problem for a while now, I argued this point with them when they came out and they said they were right and they are all wrong, they still haven't fixed the problem with the tooling because they have too much inventory to just scrap, I sent ALL of my e-body bumpers back to them like as in around 60 bars because they are not a good quality,

Dave, Those bumpers you sent to me look great... I'd have to say much better than "driver" quality.

the y/o = goodmark bars are a good fit but still driver quality,
I just received a Goodmark rear bumper for challenger.  The metal thickness is 0.069 inch.  The AMD bumper that I straightened is  0.097 inch thick.  IMO the Goodmark bumper is for looks only, not for a driver where someone might bump into you.  The Goodmark shape was fairly close, much better than the AMD, but no better than the AMD after I straightened it.  Some corner details where better on the AMD as shown in photos.  I'm going to return the Goodmark and use my straightened AMD.

Goodmark has 2 versions of there bumpers. they are both after market but one is from KEYSTONE which is what we carry now, This is what I sent buillit and vtmopar. it is almost a show quality bar, very nice, there standard bar is a little bit better than AMD's, but is a major difference between the 3

I vote for returning work to U.S. workers.
:iagree:    I cant disagree with that idea
But would you and everyone else agree to pay the difference in costs. I have spoken with Alan and Mark a great deal, and have ventured into tooling pricing,  :banghead: astronomical differences. 10 - 15 times more.
No matter how you amortize it, the retail price would double, maybe even triple before it was in the final consumers hand.
I dont like it, buts its just the way it is these days. :swear:

What exactly was wrong with the bumper and how did you straighten it?

greed of manufacturing and over paid people is what has ruined this country and one of the main reasons why we are in this depression.

the bumpers have a crown in the middle on the rears and the v shape is to sharp on the fronts.

Tell that to a guy that felt he had a decent job that paid him enough to live on comfortably. Should the workers not earn a decent wage? Should a company not earn a profit?    :blah: :blah: :blah:
