Questions Regarding my Small Block 360 Intake Manifold
« on: October 07, 2009 - 02:27:45 PM »
Hey all!
I'm not great when it comes to engine components but when i got my Challenger the engine was completely disconnected with no wiring harness. I recently had the engine rebuilt and i'm in the process of putting a few odds and ends on it. I was wondering if Collectively I can get some answers to these questions that I have regarding my Intake manifold. Below are some pictures of my Intake. I need to know what goes in these ports. Picture 1 Letter A (I believe that a vacuum port goes here. I am running a mechanical distributor without a Vaccuum advance so I am unsure what to do with this port). Picture 2 Letters B, C, & D ( I know that one of these is where the Engine Temp sending unit goes but not sure which one it is and not sure what the other two ports are for. Picture 3 is the back of the motor. Letter E (I Just want to know what size bolt goes in this for the distributer Bracket. Is it a bolt or a stud with a nut?). Letter F( I think that this is where the oil pressure sending unit goes if I remember correctly. Can someone confirm this? Picture 4 ( My question here is Do I need a PCV Valve in one of these Valve covers? On the passenger side of the motor I have a cap in the rear and an opening in the front. On the drivers side of the motor I have a cap in the front and the rear opening is not punched out. I have seen engines with just breathers in them. I'm not sure what I need here. Your help would be appreciated. Thanks all.

Plug A if you dont need vacuum. Brake booster might need?
Temperature sending unit to B or D, depends on your sending unit which will fit, usually B is correct. C is for the heater hose if i remember correctly.
F is for oil pressure sending unit.

Some people use PCV, some dont. I use only breathers.

A is Brake booster , do not connect PCV here , PCV usually connects to the carb base
B is factory temp sender
C is heater hose but needs to be enlarged , it is tapped too small for the factory fitting
D is spare , or mechanical temp guage
E is the dist hold down bolt
the open hole should have a PCV valve in the valve cover & the twist fill cap should be replaced with a breather on the opposite cover to the PCV

Thanks Chryco! Which side should the pcv be on, the drivers side or the passenger? Am I right or wrong? PCV should be on Passenger side front and i should have two solid breathers one in the passenger side rear and one in the drivers side front.

PCV can be on either side but seem to work better ont he rear of the valve cover , this makes for a shorter hose to the back of the carb ..... Unless you are running an Eddy carb with the PCV connection towards the front
