I ticked the "will look into it" box.  I would be happy to make this site run smoother if changing to a photo hosting site will help not that I put up many photos.
A few questions I have as I am in the older generation, closer to a caveman but not 72 yet and haven't read anything about photobucket other than a couple of comments here.

Does it cost and if so how much?

How long do photobucket keep the photos?

Can our photos on photobucket be viewed by others not on this site?

Can I delete my photos on photobucket?

Can photobucket delete my photos without my permission?

Is there a limit to how many photos that can be stored on photobucket?

Is there a size limit on the photos?

I haven't even been to their site yet, suppose I should do it sometime, thanks for all or any answers to my questions.
Dave

I just signed up for photobucket and will use it the next time I post a picture. Can someone explain in simple terms why photobucket (or similar service) is a better way to load pictures?

Other than it is simple to use vs the uploader found here. Your images are not filling up the limited space allotted to photos here.   When the upload file is full the administrator has to delete some pictures so new ones can be uploaded..Thus the older posts loose their pictures.

  :

Does it cost and if so how much?  Basic service is FREE

How long do photobucket keep the photos? We do not know, I have been using them for 2+years...I guess as long as they stay in business

Can our photos on photobucket be viewed by others not on this site?  Yes, if you link to a picture here they will see it

Can I delete my photos on photobucket?  Yes you can but they will no longer show up anywhere you have linked to them

Can photobucket delete my photos without my permission?  I suppose they could but unless it was some kind of objectionble material I don't see why they would.

Is there a limit to how many photos that can be stored on photobucket?Yes, in the FREE account there is a reasonable limit

Is there a size limit on the photos?  No, but for the purpose of posting photos here it is best to let them be downsized, I use 17" scree, so that they can be easily viewed.  I could see that you may want to keep some photos in maximum resolution for printing, & you do have that option

I haven't even been to their site yet, suppose I should do it sometime, thanks for all or any answers to my questions.

Another good thing is if you email photos in large quatities you know how long it can take to send & receive , with photobucket you just email a link.

I've been using the Bucket ever since AOL did away with their free FTP space. Nowhere near filling all that space...LOL.

I voted for don't use it but will look into it.  It was a toss up between that and I am to dumb to know what photobucket is.  Some of those questions were answered on this thread and I really will try to make some time to check it out and maybe learn a new trick.  I love to look at the pics on this site and if photobucket will make that better and not have them disappear that's great.

David,  are your old pics on any electronic device, media or anywhere on the internet.. If so you can save them to Photobucket.  If you only have prints you would need a scanner.

Well I have a scanner............but I do have the website that my son is still fiddling with.  He changed some of the setups and has not transfered all the pics to the new site yet.  I may try to do the PB thing with more of the resto pics......I have all of them on the PC and have backed up a file with most of them on disc .

use photbucket's BULK UPLOADER & browse your computer & open the folder the pics. are in...SELECT ALL & let ir run...The 1st time I did this it took about 30 minuites to copy a few hundred pics. .... Don't forget to select the size you wand to use, I use 17" screen, so the picture will fit in the frame

I prefer Imageshack. No regulations on how many photos. Straight image copy to forum and not your whole portofolio that others can browse thru.

With Photobucket, they tell you that you've exceeded the amount of pictures allowed if you have alot of them.

I'm not big on computers as some here so there might be stuff I'm not aware of.
But Imageshack is simple and straightforward. So I'll stick with that.

I have been using photobucket for a fewe years now as I also belong to hunting and fishing forums and you can well imagine the amount of photos I have to upload on those sites lol - photobucket works great for that

and the all knowing how car enthusiasts enjoy looking at the curves, ridges and lines of beauties (cars) photobucket would be perfect to use here

There are multiple sub "ALBUMS" so organization is similar to using files...of course you could have multiple accounts, as accounts only seem to require a email address to acquire.

I think a couple of you objections are addressed under account options. Photobucket is at least the 3rd service I have sighed up for, one Yahoo discontinued their service & it was Photobucket that they directed me to & allowed transfer of the photos I had there. I Googled image hosting & see there are dozens of services available.

TC I notice in your resto thread a lot of images are not showing up...need to update   :poopoke: :poopoke:

One great feature, that photohosting has, is that you can comment between your pics while when using the sites own uploader it isn't possible. Also photobucket (and probably most of the other hosting sites too) is very easy to use if your browser is somewhat up to date. I had some problems with the bulk uploader with bit older browser I had on another computer but an update fixed that.
