tranny cooler query
« on: October 08, 2009 - 02:42:31 PM »
Looking into tranny coolers and found there are more choices than there are letters in the chinese alphabet.

Some are 3/4" some are 1.5".

I have a 26" rad.....was planning on using the straps that zip the cooler to the front of the rad.

B&M has a 7.5"x11"x1.5".....for $60  #70264  I am thinking about.....

Any opinions or better suggestions?

So the B&M's "stacked plates" don't net any performace?

And 3/4" is enough...dont need the 1.5"?

That 3/4 one looks like the one I got, I think i got it from the Local parts house for 35 bucks or so too.

Tom

BTW Terry, would you plumb it to the trans cooler in the rad first then to the ext cooler last on it's way back to the trans or vice-versa?

I like the one I posted.

Yes, ALWAYS cool it by the radiator cooler first ,then cool it more with the add on cooler.

I have read in a few places that folks prefer to bypass the radiator cooler......

Gives the tranny its own cooling system and the rad coolant cant heat the tranny fluid when rad temps are really high.....at least that is what they say.  Also, prevents tranny fluid/rad coolant cross contamination in the event that the rad cooler springs a leak.

Or are they all wet?

Terry...just ordered the cooler you suggested....but found it on Summit for $42...

Combining it with the shipping with my Breakway (also just ordered) I saved $5 over ordering thru the other place (it was $14 to ship to me).  Plus I found a coupon savings code for 10% off my order, so saved another $36!    SO I saved $41 overall......me likes saving the kaching! :money:WOOHOO! :roflsmiley:

By the way, if anyone is interested...the code is  2RETYV  and you enter it into the "source code" box when you check out thru Summit's website.
UPDATE: You need to spend $75 or more for the code to work. But that shouldn;t be hard on Summit...so many toys! LOL

I tried to order the same thing online and the code didn't work.  Did you call in your order?

Probably should have mentioned...its 10% when you spend $75 or more.

That could be your problem.....or you have it in the wrong box on the form...it has to bet he summit racingcheckout form, not the google or paypal.....

Here is where I got the code....

Good luck!

How did you guys run your rubber hoses for coolers so that they dont rub on the sharp edge of the rad support?

The only two places I can see that they could run would be down between the front edge of the rad support (which would leave the hoses exposed on the bottom) or possibly out the passenger side between the radiator and the front panel (I am using spacers to fit my 26" rad into a 19" car)....but THAT route seems too tight for the hose.

SO what tricks /routing did you guys use?

Most of the ones I have seen route from under the bottom. If you are worried about abrasion and stuff ,you could always get stainless steel braided covered hose. It looks "trick" also.
