Ididit Steering column
« on: October 11, 2009 - 07:41:45 PM »
Hi. Any one got one of these e-body  steering columns with tilt and if so are they worth it?

Thing is I'm 6'2" and 120kg and with the Recaros its a bit of a leg squeeze to get in and out with the stock setup.

Cheers, :nzflag:

Looks nice,  Maybe a shorter can will work for you?  I have a shorter one on my car due the previous owner being a bigger guy.  Will the tilt clear the dash?  The regular wheel is tight already with the shorter can.  Also there was another member that shortened his "crush can". :2thumbs:

Tom.

Does the shorter crush can make the turn signal lever a tad close to the wheel? Ever grab or bump it by accident?   :dunno:

Nah, I drive with one hand at the top of the wheel. :cooldancing:

I only go about 5'10" and 205 on a good day, sometimes 215. :faint:

Thanks. Yeah it would be nice to see a pic of it in the 'up' position.

I already got the can shortened and the indicator lever bent so my fingers clear it. Also got the smallest Grant wheel I could find.

Its just an issue with the Recaro bottom seat bolsters and the bottom of the wheel. Once I'm in its ok.

Thanks for the photos.
Did you get it from Magnumforce?
Wonder if you can order without the wheel or ignition?
This pic. looks like it gives heaps of room.

I bought the Ididit without the key setup for a E body. I plan on going keyless ignition.
I didn't care for the key style anyway. If I was to keep the key I think I would rather have the flaming river column that uses a Mopar key setup. They come without a steering wheel. Flaming River and Ididit are your two aftermarket choices right now, no matter who you buy from.

On an unrelated note, that tunnel looks very wide, almost to the point of interfering with your foot placement for the gas pedal. is that an illusion or is that new stick shift really require that much room?

Thanks for the replies.

I ordered a custom one from Marty @ Ididit directly. Great to deal with. No ignition as my car is keyless and he is going to shorten the can and still allow for maximum 'up' tilt without hitting the dash.

I'll add 1/2 - 1" spacers under the front of the seats as well to get the best possible seating position for someone 6'2"+. :nzflag:

Driver side tunnel is stock 4 speed the extra width is on the passenger side I also added 1 inch in height to the tunnel. so some of it is the angle of the photo and some of it is the stretch to the right side pulled the driver’s side pad over i am planning on adjusting it better over the winter.

Sounds like you need a 6 way seat.

I was thinking that too, but with spacers, he will save about $600.   :grinyes:
