A reason to build a 383 is not to do the same thing as everyone else (build a 440).  Kinda the reason I'm into Mopar.  Everyone has a Cheby.

You can get 10-1 pistons and like one of my 383's i built,(have 2 fresh ones on engines stands) I used 1967 440HP closed chamber heads, which brings the Comp ratio right up and outperforms open chamber heads.

I thought I had read a write up many years ago that the closed chamber heads were good for bringing the compression ratio up but did not make more power than an open chamber head due to the burn characteristics between the two chambers when the piston was at TDC.
