« on: October 12, 2009 - 03:29:19 AM »
Im sick of the flat tappet cam run in prosedure so looking at going roller cam,who makes the best and what grinds can you get for mild 440s?any pros or cons from any one that has used them at all?

As far as best that's just an opinion... The cam in my challenger was very mild... What are the rest of the engine specs...

My engine specs are six pack,440source heads, std manifolds,3.55 gears and a 4 speed and at moment a six pack cam,a manifold stud broke on the 906s at the end under the booster so have to take the head off so may as well rip into it and change the cam and heads while Im under the bonnet.

I'd go with a hydraulic street roller. Something like the XR274HR-10. Smaller is better in your case. I would not go solid roller unless you tera the engine down and bush the lifter bores.

Why is that? I really don't think that is necessary...

Matter of opinion. If you've never had a failure that led to the lower end being damaged, then it's usually a hard sell. I have seen it twice. If say a spring fails or loses tension and the pushrod bends the lifters tend to pop out of the bores. On the left side that means all the oil pressure goes out of that bore and none go to the bearings. Unless this happens at idle there is no way to shut the engine down fast enough to avoid damaging the bearings and crank. So bushing to me is critical. It also repairs the lifter bore angles that are very common and allows the control of oil to force more to the bearings. Hydraulic rollers tend to not have that problem with lighter springs and less failure issues with the lifters during street duty.
