Yes, all numbers match.  I was concerned about that same thing and snapped some photos.  I just wish that I would have opened it up to see if it had forgd crank, etc.. but did not and had to take his word for it that they were the cast that he gave back to me.  Then, I started to wonder what kind times he was turning when he was running it on the weekends. LOL

I feel yer pain man.

Its tough not trusting the shop.   You tell them what you want and hand them your cash and hope that they do what you want.   The only way to really know is to tear down the work after they finish it.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you that all is well.

Just dropped it off yesterday with a new pan and gasket kit.  See what turns up here in a few days:)

sorry to hear about all this; I have never heard of anyone using JB-Weld on freezeplugs. Is that common? I have seen the rear freeze and cam plugs staked before but never installed with JB-Weld

I've never heard of JB weld used on freeze plugs - or anywhere else on a (quality!) engine build!!

I've restored a dozen cars for myself and grew up working in my Dad's shop. As I get closer to retirement (47!) I am taking on a few jobs for people. I would NEVER act like all these guys do in these stories. I take digital photo's of EVERYTHING done and put them on a disk at the end for the customer. I call the customer and tell them to come out to see everything that is going on, has changed or may cost them more. At

Sorry to hear about your engine hassle, but thanks for posting the whole story.  I just got my car back from paint.  The job is crap.  I spent weeks trying to find someone who will touch it...most say no way.  May have found a guy to do spot touch up, but everyone says the clear coat may be too thin, may have to sand down to primer and repaint.   If I have to I'll repaint it myself when its warm next summer.   For me, (and you?) what a waste of time and money.

What a shame!  Sorry to hear your story.  It is amazing, or shameful I guess that there are so many shotty people out there.
My engine is getting ready to be torn down today or tomorrow so I will soon get the good news or bad.......  My fingers are crossed!

My engine was torn apart this afternoon and here is what I have so far.  Headbolts were not used with washers (aluminum against steel????) and were not torqued down to spec with short and long bolts in the wrong positions.  Rear main seal was not in properly.  There was a (i wish I would have written it down) cap or plug that is used when you hot tank it and it was left in the engine where the cam sits.  Wish I could remember what it was called.  This would have torn up my cam pretty quickly.  Then where there was supposed to be a short push rod, there was actually not one at all.  So far, nothing that is going to cost me any extra money, but I am glad that I am having it looked at.  Could have been really bad had I ran it.  I guess that there may be more to come, but hopefully this is where the problems stop.

Take this list and go back to the first guy.  Tell him every dollar you spent on his "supposed" labor goes back in your pocket or you'll go to the BBB, local news, lawyer, whoever it takes.

Good luck, and glad you caught it NOW rather than later.
