Has anyone restored a wood grain steering wheel?
« on: October 18, 2009 - 11:29:22 PM »
I would like to try this- how bad can it be? Never mind, don't answer that.
Does anyone know what to use for filler, dye , etc., and where they could be purchased? I'm not after perfection, just have a good opportunity to try to improve the one on my driver Dart.

i am no expert,,they make several good epoxys ,find the best for non shrinkage,,as far as color,i used a very light sanding paper and a walnut stain and coated with a good urethane ,,several coats,,my rimblow looks good,,i had one that i used a filler an sold, looked good..,the one i have now had no cracks on the woodgrain,,but some on the backside,i used a light filler and black vinyle paint and coated with urethane,,the end product on mine looks great,,but i am by far no expert, just my :2cents:

Whose epoxy would you recommend? How do I know which are stainable and which aren't?

i used epoxy by eastwood products and por-15,,those are 2 that can sand and stain,,but there are proably more,,i had to try differnt stains to get a close match,,you might try some internet searchs on best ways to restore,,it was the first time i did one,,so i can only relate to mine,,as i said i am no expert,,i am sure there are more ways to do it,,here is a site for buying parts and can restore professionally
