Got Your Flu Shot Yet??
« on: October 20, 2009 - 05:51:30 AM »
I was just wondering how many folks here have gotten an H1N1 flu shot yet this season?? I know according to the news that thousands have waited in line for the vaccine. According to the latest Fox News report; about 60% of Americans with get the H1N1 virus this season and that the vaccine shots will arrive too late! That's pretty scary. I was also curious if the shots are available if you will get yours?? The last time I got a flu shot.....it gave me the flu, albeit a mild case, but still the flu. So I am a little leary about getting one now & still undecided! How about you?? :22yikes:

I too stopped getting the flue shots about 30 years ago and stopped getting the flue.
If you check what is in this new flue shot you wouldn't have it, it has been banned in some countries.   :22yikes:

That's a normal reaction to the flu shot but understandable why you wouldn't want it again.  :grinyes:  When you get a flu shot, the injection is actually introducing a small but "safe" amount of the virus into your body so that it signals the immune response to make antibodies against the foreign virus.  That's how when you actually contract the flu virus you can fight it off.

I got the seasonal flu shot yesterday.  At Massuchusetts General Hospital they still do not have the H1N1 injection.  :dunno:

Maybe Ebay?  :clueless:  :roflsmiley:

I don't get any shots, I think the Government( while they think they are doing a good thing) is doing a disservice messing with my immune system. I may be wrong but that's just me! Too many pills ,shots etc.... these days I feel like a walking guinea pig, no thanks! Just look at TV commercials (US TV Stations) Every commercial break it's either an ad for some pill that I can never figure out does "what" (with horrible side effects) or a lawyer chasing ambulances??? :dunno:

I'm not a believer in the shots, and not just because I hate needles.

Has anyone thought about these shots being the cause of these new "mutated" or "super" flus?

I have never had a flu shot. I have been sick for over 3 weeks. Now im down to a nagging cough, stuff in my lungs and a runny nose. It was very tuff for me working outside with 101 plus fever. Some nights I didnt get 3 hrs of sleep. Im glad I am over the hump now. I may consider the shot next year. As we get older, the sickness is harder on us.

Has anyone thought about these shots being the cause of these new "mutated" or "super" flus?

That's what some of the thought is.  Some say when you kill off the weaker bacteria/virus, what's left over are the stronger strains that survive the antibiotics, the "super bugs".  That's why even the seasonal flu shots need to be adjusted for different strains.

Some people even thought this about over hand washing or having too sterile an environment.  Some say the chemicals used to clean our houses weaken our immune system due to the chemical nature of the solvents but kill off the weaker bacteria leaving the stronger ones behind, leaving us weaker but the bacteria stronger.   :dunno:

The "dirt" in ways makes us stronger in that we are exposed to different allergens that may, in small doses, actually help improve our immune system by helping our bodies develope more antibodies .

My wife got a flu shot (pregnant, works at a hospital) but my daughter and I got the newer "nasal" innoculation.

A drop of the flu virus is placed in your nasal cavity.  As the drop is slowly absorbed, it gives the virus time to mutate, meaning that your body gets exposed to more variations of the flu strain, hopefully meaning a "wider kill".

I've gotten this the last two years and haven't been sick, so "knock on wood".  Do we need an emoticon for that?

Got the flu 25 years ago, don't want to do that again.  Got the shot every years since.
