Fender tag question
« on: October 20, 2009 - 09:02:15 AM »
My car isnt even close to being all orginal....no numbers match etc....but still, when I look at that empty space on my fender where the fender tag USED to be I wonder what happened to it.....

Could be that the guys who painted it the first or last time ripped it off...or maybe someone took it off when it was sitting in the barn.....

I dunno....

But...do the fender tags have the full VIN on them or just the codes?  I am wondering if its even possible to try and track down a fender tag....my car is an orig 318 car, but other than that nothing worth stealing the tag from...so my guess is it probably got tossed by one of the guys painting it....but, it never hurts to try....

Or do I have a better chance at hitting the lottery?  LOL

The fender tag has the full vin on it. Bottom right.  Many times a paint and body shop will pull it off to go match the paint, or remove it to paint underneath it first. The paint code is also on that tag.

Cool, thanks.

I am thinking I might call the shop I got the car from (they painted it) and see if they still have it, though I doubt it.  They gave me a box of all the parts they said they took off to paint, etc and it wasnt in there...so its likely it went bye byes years ago....

Bummer. :-[

Try the previous owners.  you never know, you might get lucky.

If you find a build sheet for your car you can have the fender tag remade.

Good luck!

Paint guys have a habit of collecting the fender tags by (accident)  They end up in their personal tool boxes or other places like that like a drawer . It wouldnt hurt to ask them and the guy that took the code for the paint.  Also what Josh said :2thumbs:
