Generic Cuda gauge question
« on: October 20, 2009 - 09:00:27 PM »
Anyone should know this.  The gauge lights dont work on my cuda.  Its a 1973.  Its the first one Ive owned, and I dont get whats going on.  Its obviously just a bulb somewhere.  My question is: are they backlit?  I was looking on ebay something about a lightbar.  Someone please inform me about how the assembly works and where the bulb is.

Thanks

Not back-lit...look straight up above the gauges across the underside of the dash... a long rectangle of metal contains 3-4 plastic lenses.  Three screws remove the whole bar.
Probably a fuse or the panel dimmer switch on the bottom left of the instruments is bad.

Thank you very much!!!  I am too used to working on Pontiacs and Chevys I guess.  MOPARS are hard to come by.

 :iagree:

You might also want to check out the tail lights.  My experience has been that when the tail lights aren't working the gauge lights aren't working.  Check fuses and wiring.

I'm not sure if this will help or not, but I have some pics of the lightbar I recently installed in my '71 Cuda.

Here's the lightbar:

A closeup:

Here's where it installed - under the dash hood above the gauges:

If all the other lights are working otherwise, try fooling around with the dimmer knob.  They aften get dirty and twisting it around a lot will often get the dash lights back to order.

If you need a new switch, a member here named Slotts refurbishes old ones and make them like new.  He does great work!
