499 6 pack
« on: October 22, 2009 - 09:05:15 PM »
I'm pretty much finished with this engine.  It's an all steel 400 block 906 headed 499 with a 383 6pk intake.  This 400 was a early 72 block, but nothing special. Here's a little bit about my build

440 source forged pistons  4.375  .008 in the hole with valve pockets deep enough for a 700 lift cam
Mahle  Rings
440 source rods with .990 small ends
440 source 415 crank
 lunati solid cam #60342  566/586 lift    251/259 @ .050  installed on a 106 intake centerline.
ported 906 heads
hemi pan
hooker headers
edelbroc 6pk shaved .080
.039 thick head gaskets

Im hoping this engine to be a tq engine.   No Idea what hp and tq is, but maybe around 475 hp/500 tq  not sure. Should be fun tho

Here's a couple of pictures of it.  Anyone care to help me guess hp/tq..... Not a race engine, but some might race it I guess.

That will fit under the hood easy Bart :grinyes: it is only a low deck big block with a six pack intake, they are actually lower than a 440 six pack set up.

Bet this engine ends up in a 69 Super Bee for run in and a few runs in the 8th mile

And i spy with my little eye, my tunnel ram in the background  you can use and abuse the tunnel ram Alan, just look after it old mate

somewheree around 375 hp /440 tq at the tires

Not a race engine OK but that isn't no street engine either  :D

Those on the street are going to have a big surprise, lol.

Al, I recently found my old copy of Keith Black Dyno Software.  It seemed to follow a lot of the magazine dyno results with a little tweaking.  I can email it on Monday if you're interested.

I get around 11.5:1 for compression.  KB Dyno thinks the following:

There is calibration/adjustment in the programming if this seems too high.  Best/better way to do this is plug in a magazine build and see how it compares to their results.

Thanks Brook. I see I got your email, but I am riding in my truck right now. Planning on stopping in Abeline Tx tonight. I was going to dwnld it then.  I was shooting for 500 hp.  with these steel heads. The compression is close to the chart. Maybe a little less. Im not sure .  Thanks for that chart posting
