Leaf spring advice
« on: October 24, 2009 - 01:08:31 PM »
Hello all,
Can anyone give me some advice on a lift for my Challenger? Also a suggestion for a company to buy my leaf springs from and a suggestion on front and rear shocks. I have a small block and looking for some lift to the back of my ride. I don't want to over due it. I have 1 inch dia torsion bars. I'm running 235 60R 15 in the Front & 275 60R 15 in the Rear.  I spoke to a gentleman at Just Suspensions and he suggested a 5 leaf spring with a 1 inch over stock lift would look nice. What is your suggestion on the lift? I don't want to order the spring and the lift not be enough. Has anyone ever dealt with Just Suspensions? I have looked at some past postings regarding leaf springs & there was mention of MP XHDs. Some good & some bad. I'm just trying to find a set that is reasonable and that i will be happy with. I mentioned the XHDs to Just Suspensions and they crapped all over MP leaf springs. I was sort of expecting that. I usually get turned off by a company that does this no matter how good their product is. I don't like companies that do this just so you will buy their product. I have attached a picture of the look (Height) minus the tires in this photo that I am trying to accomplish. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you want to go cheap, as memtioned by others on this board, you can pull your current leafs out and just add one long leaf to each while removing the smallest leaf.  Thats what I intend to do with mine and if that does not get me the ride heigth I'm looking for, I'll then try rearching my springs and finally look to the more expensive after market springs as a last resort.

One word of caution, don't go with the cheap import springs that a lot of discount part dealers carry.  They claim to give you 1" lift over stock and that they are "Mopar" springs, but in reality they are cheap imported junk.

Remember you will never be happy with the quick fix from air shocks unless you like to hear your teeth rattle.

Also, see my thread here under Suspensions titled "Leaf Springs Tooooo Low" for some additional input by the guys.

Where can you purchase the leafs from? Do I need to rebuild my current leaf springs?

My car had a bad sagging rear end so when it was time to replace my springs I went with the advise of others here and got my springs thru Espo springs and things. I went with 1" over stock and used the polygraphite bushings. They were easy to deal with and I really like them.  When my springs came in they had sent rubber bushings instead of the poly. Called them up and they shipped the right bushings immediately---had them 3 days later.  They were not that expensive either.  I put the Just Suspension front end kit on my car also.  Here's a before and after shot.

Thanks,
I called springs and things and they told me to take measurements which I have no way of doing because My complete suspension is removed from my car. They told me that they could not help me unless I knew what the stock measurements are. i did not understand that. maybe i will try them again. I like the lift that it gave your car. i think that 1 inch higher than stock is what I am looking for. Nice Cuda by the way.
