Need of screwholes?
« on: October 27, 2009 - 04:11:25 PM »
My car had this panel in the rear but I'm not planning of using it. Is there another chromemolding in
it's place or can I fill the holes where this panel was mounted? :clueless:

That is the SE tail panel piece.  I think it was also available with some other trim options as well.  As you can see, the rear quarter trim is incorperated into that piece.  If you don't plan on using it, you will have to get the separate tail panel trim that the regular cars used.  I got mine from Mike at BE&A.  They are very nice pieces.  You need to keep the holes in back of the quarters for the new mouldings but I don't know how that piece mounts in the center of the car.

Thanks, that should mean that the trunklid molding and the quarterpieces is all I need and the holes can go. :clueless:

your new molding should fit on the quarter panels,,the old holes may line up to them,,why are you taking it off ?

I agree why are you taking it off?  It's a desirable part!

I have a 70 SE challenger.  My tail panel is not tied into the trim pieces as this one shows.  They are completely detached.

Edit... The trim pieces are toward the bottom of the group.   3 pieces total.

There are a couple of pics where I was deciding to do silver panel or black.  I went with the black...................

Someone modified yours at some point then.  :2cents:

It is a fairly common low-buck fix. Cheaper to trim the damaged ends off & replace them with the std.  issue parts.

The holes above the tail lights would need to be filled and the ones under the trunk lid would also need to be filled in order to eliminate the need for that panel.
If the ends are good I would keep it or fix it, Should be worth a couple of hundred bucks or more.
Maybe trade it for that side windshield trim you need.

Good idea with the trading  I like it better without that panel.
