My vin code seems wacky
« on: October 27, 2009 - 09:56:37 PM »
I own a 72 chall rallye
It has the js23 on the vin but the next digit is a "G" and that is for a 318.
I thought all rallye's had a 340 4bbl in 72.
The car does have 4 bbl's so I just don't get it.
Any ideas?

Js23g is a 318 car and someone either put a 4v on there or swapped the engine

but in all the books I read, the rallye replaced the r/t and has a 340 4bbl
I never saw a mention of a 318 rallye

You should read all the pages at the link below;

There may be a test afterwards.  ;)

I didn't realize that in 72 you could get a 3.55 posi rearend. I thought 3.23 was the lowest gear available. Learn something new every day. Thanks Barry.

Bummer-
with 1 click I went from a 340 4 bbl to a 318 4 bbl.
Just lost a bunch of horses.

318 2bbl originally.

Nothing wrong with that, I own a 318 car myself.

Just try to blow up a 318, I mean really try.  You'll have a new-found respect for the motor.

Add a set of #302 heads and you'll get them back.

Your tailpanel is painted black with argent around the tail lights correct?  Or has the car been modified with different paint and dual exhaust?

I've tried to blow one up with no success.
