In my case, the carpet is perfect other than the fading.  Also, it's about 18th on the list of $150 items.  Another thing is when the carpet comes out I am putting in the manual trans hump for a 4 speed and if the seats come out they are getting rebuilt....  So the carpet ends up being a $2000 deal.  :)

That and I can't afford new carpet.  :)

if you put in a 4 speed hump,I dont think your old carpet is going to fit properly  :2cents:

Yes thats sort of the problem.  When I pull the carpet I need to change the hump and vice versa.

I was going to say the same thing.

Also,  I am not used to the mentality of replacing parts.  I come from the vintage guitar world where you can't just slap on new parts.  Everything has to be correct down to the last screw or the value is altered dramatically.

Not that I am not going to eventually replace my carpet....

Thats part of the A97 package that also includes the lovely purple paint job and the keystone klassics.  It's a survivor!   :woohoo:

I would get some Purple Shag rug from the 60's to cover the hood and the scoop!

Ok now I am inspired.  Purple shag on the carpets, headliner and panels.  Then a chain steering wheel, and an 8 track playing wacka wacka porno music.   :cooldancing:

...searching ebay for traction bars and some wood grain decals for the sides.

:scared: Don't do it man! Don't go into the light!  :smilielol: I've lived through those days of "Felt" paint jobs and those big prism tape DODGE decals on the quarter panels! The horror!  :puke:

How are the new carpet kits as far as color fastness?

I dunno about the new carpet but the carpet in my car has faded to a nice reddish purple color.  If it was not spotty it would be a perfect match!

If you're still planning on just dying it for now, I know there have been quite a few people from the 3/S forum that have had good luck with the dye used for clothing (can't remember the brand)...Just make sure to have the carpet cleaned really well prior to applying it.  Then once it's been rubbed in as per the instructions and has had time to soak in, do a second washing to get any of the extra dye off.

I still want to do it, I am a bit wishy washy on working on the car though right now my attention is on fixing all the mechanical gremlins.

Rit dye is at the grocery store and used on fabrics.  I could try that.

I just hit he faded spots on the hump and around the shifter with some HD .97$ gloss black. Just fogged it on there. Worked and looks great, as for longevity, we shall see after the summer months

After spring and summer sun cooking the interior of the Cuda, I am happy to report the Home Depot $.97 gloss black rattle can dye job is holding up perfectly even after numerous vaccuum jobs

Just bought some vinyl interior spray cans from the bodyshop supply store and it says its good for carpet too.  I think its an SEM product and will have to check the label again. I've got a new gray carpet that nobody wants to buy so I might give it a a try.
