It is threaded, the tool makes it easier.  Some have luck with a big pipe wrench to get it out.

Put some kind of rust solvent on it as well and it will be easier even with the tool.

I use the socket on my air gun. I also take the joint off while the control arm is still on the car. It braces it better and easier to remove

If you know someone at a local shop, just take it to them.  THey will probably have the tool and you will save the $30.

I took my arms into the shop that is accross the street from where I work.  They removed the old ones and they installed the new ones when I had the control arms done.  Total cost to me...$0.

If I lived in US that would bee an option  ;D
I live in Sweden so "the shop that is accross the street " does not know anything about 40 year old american cars  :grinyes:

I have removed one of those by grabbing the whole assembly with a vice from the upper balljoint and turning the whole thing by using a long pipe that fits over one end of the upper control arm. The "hex" type collar on the ball joint is bit shallow but you should be able to grab it on a decent sized vice, just get it tight.

Just up from the garage and I had the same idea  :grinyes: but with no luck,it just "popped" out of the vice  :swear:
Also heated it up but no luck
More rust remover added and I see tomorrow or so

hey tomsa,  I made a bunch of those sockets a few years ago for other moparowners in the netherlands, and I have some parts left.  If you send me your adress I`ll ship the ring that fits the balljoint to you. You can weld a pipe or a big socket or something to it ,and save your controll arms.  Wont cost you anything but a few days of patience for the package to get there...  :netherlands:

Hey, I know that feeling.

It's not a hex fitting it's like a rounded off square - I have got them out with what we call a stilson wrench - maybe what the yanks call a pipe wrench (not sure) like a big floppy adjustable thing.

If yours is tight then dutch's tool looks like it is worth waiting for.
