    Lug nut spacing...sorry I have to ask

    I measure just over 4.25 inch center to center between lug nut studs on my 74 challenger, yet everyone says the spacing is 4.5 inches.   So what gives?

    It's 5x4 1/2". Somehow you are 1/4" off, what give's I'm unsure..but thats what it is!  :cheers:

    I think maybe you are measuring on a straight line and not on a radius??

    Yes, I'm measuring straight line between centers of lug nut studs.

    Straight line between two opposing lugs is 4.5", any ebody

    On 5 lug, you must measure from the center of one stud to the outside edge of the opposite lug.  Summit has this outlined in the wheel section of their catalog or here...

    If there are an even number (4,6,8) you can measure center to center to get the diameter, otherwise you can use these kind of tricks.  You could run into problems though with over size studs.

    Early A-bodies had a 4" bolt circle.

    I've been through this with my guys a zillion times over the years ... thats why its called a "bolt circle" the measurement of the circle directly accross..  :thumbsup:

    YES...doing this gave a perfect 4.5 inch bolt circle.  Thanks for all responses.
