Polish GoMango 1970 RT challenger
« on: November 04, 2009 - 11:32:22 AM »
Today I drove her the last time, 100 miles to the workshop, hopefully the best and only one dealing with mopars, here in PL.
This will be a complete resto but may take some time due to wife, kid on the way and cash shortages :)
The plan is to tackle mechanical probems - tranny, low CR of the motor, howling rearend and attack the body. Today we found lots of rust under thick coat of filler in the lower quarters, on the rockers... of course the car was said "straight and rustfree". The trunk is rusted thru in several places too.
So the shop is gonna strip her to the bare body and thn we'll see how much sheet metal I need.
Moparal, I'll contact you when we complete the first list of necessary parts  :money:
I'll post photos during the resto.

Beautiful car!  Shame it has the problem areas you found.  I hope all works out for it.  Congratulations on the baby!

Dutch, my team likes to work and I think it's quite realistic. The major delay will be the shipment time from US to EU.
This is their show car (yes, it is not a resto):

thans for the link, topcat.

congratulation for the car.  It looks very similar to my Chally.  Not too bad about shipping time for our folks in EU...  The real issue is the cost.  Do you have to pay taxes when import parts from US ?   The only upside is the really good currency conversion with USD, at moment.

If I place an order at jegs/summit the shipping fee is many times unbeliveable (250usd for shipping a carb  :stomp: ) then add 22% VAT tax in EU... so I prefer to have the stuff shipped to a private person and then by USPS to Poland, when declared at 10% of real value the VAT is less problematic and shipping by USPS reasonable.

it sounds pretty strange to me.  I always use USPS and never pay more than 50-60USD for shipping even for bigger packages.  The 20% of VAT is due for everyone in EU  :banghead: :banghead:

Unfotunately mny online stores send worldwide only using DHL or UPS. Probably that carb would be at my door within next few days but paying twice the price is insane. Moparal helped me with it ;)

Dutch, maybe you know a method of transferring PPG color designations to european RAL system? My car has 1 repaint in the 90s, the color is gomango with little metallic effect (small bright flakes) but under the carpet (original floor metal) the color is more deep and dark. Don't know wchis is correct  :screwy:

No shop in Poland using PPG ?  its pretty common here...  If you have the PPG code for me, I can check with my paintshop if that color is available in RAL, but doubt if you can get a RAL code on that.  What brand will the paintshop use for the Challenger?

I think that paint will be bothering me in february ;) I asked 2 shops and they were asking for RAL designation but maybe I should look for one that uses PPG.

that's correct. I have over 70 pictures of that car (from moparts) but maybe there are others on the internet.
