what are the repop slap stick handles like?
« on: November 05, 2009 - 02:31:10 PM »
Hi!
Not sure if I should post this question here or in the tranny section? Oh well, I'm wanting to get a new t-handle for the slap stick shifter, and was wondering about the quality? Anyone have one? Any thoughts?  I have a 70 Challenger but I have both shifters the 70 and the 71-74. I know it's not "correct" but I like the 71-74 handle better! Heck my console is not correct (71-74)so at this point I might as well build what I like?
Thanks Brad

It works OK just a little worn. It has tape holding the 2 halves together. I just bought a new chrome plate that goes around the gear indicators. Now that I have that I was thinking about "prettying up" the rest of it? Gotta know when to quit I guess? :smilielol:
I might get the gear indicator and lens new too?
If I don't use it I'll mail it back to you! After you sent me the 71-74 set up I went to a flea market and some guy had just the shifter and a few rods for the 70 set up for 30 bucks so I bought it for the rods that were missing in my set up. I know it's not "right" but I like the 71-74 set up better? :dunno:
What was your car originally? Auto or 4 speed?

4 speed.   I have been considering selling the 499 after I start it up and break it in next month.  I dont even know why I built it.  I think Jason buzzed me up or something.   That guy is good at doing that to me.  I enjoy his posts.  I even thought about installing it in cudaguys car when he brings it down.  He and Jason have this competition thing going on :smilielol:.  I was just along for the ride.

I would just talk to Steve / Quapman & get the Auto stick / pistol grip for the shifter , they are made far better than either of the factory style knobs

I bought a T handle back in Carlise two years ago and since then I have used the car as a DD. The handle itself hasn't cracked or anything like they are known for but the chrome on the shifter button has worn off. I would try to find an original but otherwise its a good piece.
