Poll: Best "Car Shop" Shows on TV
« on: November 07, 2009 - 09:15:41 AM »
Here I sit channel surfing on a Saturday morning, and just had this poll idea cross my mind.  I know none of these shows really show the true problems we encounter when working on cars, old and new, but I'm talking more for pure entertainment value when killing some time.  Feel free to add any others.

For me it is Gearz on Speed.  I think Stacey David does a great job showing the work, and he has a great sense of humor, and always seems to be having fun (who wouldn't with his shop and support?).  Plus, they did a couple nice episodes on the new and old Challengers a while back.  They're not all Ford/Chevy all the time like most of the others.

I don't think any of them are the best. I do watch some of them when nothing else is on. I do get tired of seeing Furds and Sheves all the time though.

I also like Gearz. Did anybody see this butt ugly Cuda they built on Chop Cut Rebuild? I didn't think you could make a Cuda look that bad.

I like Gears also.Just seems I oversleep and never see it.As for that cuda...it ain't so bad.All it needs is for somebody to repaint it all red, change out those ugly(just my opinion)wheelsand add another carb on the blower to balance it out.Just don't look right with one carb on a big ole huffer like that.

Personally, I think Gearz is the best. Stacey David does a good job of covering a variety of topics and discusses "how to" and possible issues with many of the projects he works on in basic layman terms so that a variety of gearheads can follow no matter their level of comprehension or ability. His goal seems to simply be to support the hobby no matter what someone is interested in and tries to present the basics of each project.

Don't get me wrong as I enjoy Powerblock, Chop Cut Rebuild, Trucks, Two Guys, Street Customs, Overhaulin' etc., and it could just be the Mopar love that Gearz has shown, but Gearz seems to be less project specific while working on something covering concepts that can be applied elsewhere. I also like the changeup in shows from little strange ATVs to large PowerWagons to the History of Hot Wheels. The show is generic in covering all that the automotive world encompasses and I appreciate that. Some of the other shows have too much drama in them for me as they work on projects or come off as incompetent when things are poorly planned. But as with anything, to each his own.  :drama:

my dvr recorded a gearz episode where he "stole" a new srt challenger from a dealership and compared it to a 70 440- 6 pak challenger. Then he installed an ATI turbocharger on the new car.
Great episode.
Ive got it stored alongside the overhaulin episode where he foosed the sassy grass challenger.
In that episode foose had one scene where he looks point blank in the camera and says "now dont all you mopar guys get upset with me over this car!" :roflsmiley:

You got my vote for gears also. But trucks (I think) (maybe extreme 4x4??)has been doing a project in the 2 car garage style(not a ton of fancy equpt.) Thats a little more real for most.  And they use boneyard parts!!!

RED GREEN ROCKS!!!

Xtreme 4x4.  I'm not an off-road guy, but everything they do is budget-concious and they go into a lot of detail on their decision processes.
