Does any body know the amp rating of the fusible link in an e body?, it does not say on the links i have :clueless:

I don't know for sure, but it's at least 15 amps.

It will also smoke like crazy before it dies...Not that I'm confessing to anything stupid here.   :misbehaving:

A fusible link in 12ga goes to about a 40amp flow before it blows. They have special thick insulation so that they contain the hot conductor when they melt and let go. I carry a spare in the glove box - mind you if they blow then there are other problems as well.

Well i can confess i blew one a long time ago, and since then i have always kept that wire/link away from other wires, now i would like to replace it with a more modern one that is contained so it wont fry other wires in the process, and help by soldering it in place,the problem i am having is with the stock set up it has long since lost its factory connectors and i dont like crimp connectors
, so i have use a quick connector one that screws together,it is failing because there is to much current and eventually the connection get corroded and fails,so i will most likely solder it for now and replace it with a modern unit soon

Should be about 40a like mentioned. I went with a circuit breaker on mine however. Just click it over if something spikes, shorts, etc. Saved me once on the road where i just pulled too much on my accessories (90a alternator) and it tripped.

humm i running a 110 amp alt. and 1100 watt amps,2 electric fans,i need atleast 40 amps the fans almost draw 30 amps,i dont want to much , i need to install some relays also ,so i can draw from the battery,this is alot of help goody thanks for all the info/help :2thumbs:

And don't forget to install circuit breakers in series with the battery power feeds to the relays. Keep those wires protected. You will be hauling your motor power down with all that load on the alternator. Disconnect the belt and run the engine for 30 seconds and see what I mean. Watch the idle go way up.

At 1100 watts, that's 83 amps assuming 13.2 VDC. You need some biga$$ wire and relays man!  :scared:

Is 1100 watts a typo, or at least short term peak?

Car stereo amp ratings never seem to tie to any electrical math.  How else can a 100W head unit run off a 5A fuse.
I've often wondered how amplifier manufacturers can put huge wattage numbers out there. Watt  :grinno: kind of ohm's law do they use?

I'm not quite sure what fancy math companies use to make their power figures sound so good.   :clueless:

I have a 600 Watt amp in my trunk to run my 2 rear 6X9 4-way speakers. When I read all the fine print and stuff, this amp is actually quite tame by today's standards. It worked out to be 100 Watts per channel. It came with a 30 amp fuse. I ran the power from my starter relay, so it isn't going thru the car's originally wiring either.  Here's the kicker....After I wired it up, the amp wouldn't come on.    :stomp:  It turns out the 30 amp fuse was dead in the water.   :screwy:  I could not for the life of me find a 30 amp fuse of that physical size locally, so I went with the highest rated fuse I could find in that big size...15 amps. You know what, 5 years later, that 15 amp fuse has never blown.   :grinno:  Keep in mind, it has to be turned up loud to hear things over the exhaust on the high way, so I think this fuse is another thing they over rate.    :2cents:

yea i think your right my amps came with these Rockford fosgate certificates they say on the box 400 watts and the inside there is the performance verification certificate, it has a birth date and a test date and the test says 508 watts rms, and max power is 1524,so what is the deal why dont they say what it really is ,

and btw i know it takes a little power other that a head unit in the dash rated at 200 watts per channel ,thats only 50 watts per speaker, and that wasnt enough power to over welm the exhaust/road noise,etc,and yes 1100 watts is plenty i can now enjoy tunes at any level  :cooldancing:
