I drive right by it, and I see it every day. It's really sad. It used to be the place for great concerts, monster truck shows, motorcycle competitions, etc. When the Palace of Auburn Hills opened, it blew the Silverome away. The SIlverdome is now a bit dilapidated, outdated and needs some eager renovation to make it desirable again.
It is a bargain, but I would expect that this sale would be only temporary, with the wrecking ball coming shortly.
I can remember when the Silverdome roof collapsed probably 10 years ago. It cost several million dollars just to fix it.
I sympathize with the city of Pontiac. They are broke as broke can be, and they need that building gone. Sign of the times- sure. Was it inevitable - yep.
There is yet another windfall disaster in the city of Pontiac. There was a huge building complex that was about 40% finished when the company lost the financial backing. They were short 40 million of an 80 million dollar deal, so the plug was pulled. Now there is a GIGANTIC cluster of offices and parking deck that sit empty, abandoned and exposed to the elements just waiting. If no financial backers step up, and the exposed metal structures start to rust, then they must be torn down.
Talk about a waste....
