stupid question: are you sure you have the gasket all the way around the hole, and the ring is tight?

Yes the lock ring is tight however it looks on the small size for the hole, aftermarket crap. I ordered a new one. Hope it solves my issue.

check that the two mating surfaces are flat, and have no gouges in them.

Just reviing an old thread....

Mopardave, I believe you may have been looking into the situation I am having with my sending unit that I got from you guys....wondering if you felt it was worth trying another one or if I am better off sticking with what I have....as I had posted, I have a couple dead spots and had to tweak my unit's arm to register a full tank..........

As it stands, at least it is predictable at this point, but it would be nice to not have the dead spots as its disconcerting to look down and see a empty tank when a few miles before it was half full or 1/4 full (especially that last one...LOL)

Just thought of this since my tank is out right now for some other work on the car....

The lock ring on the new unit is thinner, so the unit does not snug down as tightly.  I could not get the old one to work easily although I did not try too hard.  Mine does not leak as far as I can tell.  I have not had a full tank in it yet.  Also my gas guage still does not work. It goes up to 1/8 full and thats it.

I guess the question is, do you think I will be better off?  It took a considerable amount of tweaking to make this one read the way it is now....

Its not hard but all that draining/refilling/draining of gas just plain sucks eggs.  LOL

I also have to see if I can find the box for it....

Yup! If you don't change it, it'll bother you everytime it drops to empty from 1/2 full - for years.

Well, Dave at Roseville took car of me and sent me a replacement unit....

Went to install it today and realized that I somehow misplaced the original locking ring, which seemed to fit better, and I also misplaced the first "new" one I had...LOL)...scrounged a while and found another new ring I had gotten with one of the Rock units and forgot to send back.... and installed the sending unit.    I tested before hand....sweep seems ok, with a few spots where it jumps back and forth a little....then hooked up to the car but out of the tank..confirmed that at full up the gauge reads full and at full down it reads empty.   

Also I didnt have to rebend anything to get the unit to seat properly like I did the first one....so off to a good start,,,,,

Just have to add some gas at some later date and see if it reads correctly.

Just an update, mine I got from Roseville works great.  Gas guage reads fine.  Excellent service as well.  It even came with a very informative instruction sheet, the ground strap, and some other stuff, I forget..

Hey Dave how much are they though you guys?

I have never had an accurate fuel gaige, drops quick and never reads quite full. Drives me crazy, I just keep filling up.  :pullinghair:

Funny,.... mines accurate but I have the same problem....pass anything but a gas station. :roflsmiley:
