340 Engine Year Needed
« on: November 20, 2009 - 07:04:09 PM »
Hey all,

So I've been trying to narrow down what year my 340 is. I was told its a '70 Chrysler but not sure if its correct.  I took a number off the block on driver side (2780930-340-6).  I tried to take a number off the passenger side but all i could get was the last two numbers which were 71..Was trying to see if this in fact was a 340 six pack originally or if it was converted. Thought the 70 340 six pack numbers ended in TA? Any info on where I could nail this down would be awesome!

T/A block casting number is: 3577130.
2780930 were years 68-73

The -6 is the core revision number, it has nothing to do with the induction.

On the driver's side front of the block, right under the deck (head gasket surface) is a flat pad with stmapings that will tell you what it came in, from where, and when. If the other numbers end in "71" the block is cast in 71. You need to know if it's a forged crank 71. or cast crank '72 model year assembly. The stamping will tell you that.

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.
