Gear Vendors?
« on: August 30, 2004 - 12:48:35 AM »

I have been thinking "maybe" I migh get a gear vendors kit for my Challenger but I need to know what the hell it is!! LOL!!  ;D

From what I can gather it's another 3 gears because it's splitting the existing gears in two.

Questions:

# Do I still use my #'s transmission or is it a whole new trans?
# Does the gear splitting damage or bad for my engine/trans?
# Does/will it sound funny from gear splitting?

It says 28% faster, I like the idea of having 4:30 gears or what ever and still cruising at 2,000rpm at 70mph. Good take off and still save gass. Only down fall I've heard about the unit is it's a little heavy but who cares if you shifting doubles as is your get up speed and I know there expensive but if it's worth it I'm keen. A 6-speed Torqueflite's gotta to be good.

Anyhow hopping someone can shed some light on the matter.

Cheers,
Carl

basically its a planetary gear set that you attach to the output of your transmission.... im sure somebody else can explain better...

what i wanted to say is I've been thinking about the whole overdrive thing and I dont think I'm going to get one, because the only way I could really justify getting one was to save gas... and considering how many miles I would have to drive to have it pay for itself at the price they sell for, I decided it wasnt for me.  Just my opinion.

Thanks for your input MAX.

At the moment I'm trying to read up on it using google. I'm not "as" keen as I was when I posted it but still would like to know more info/input on the matter. I think I'll probably wait until my car is out and running and see what I think then, knowing me  I'll love the car without it and not worry, I can always add one on later. Seems as though you don't gain "too" much in performance and with my car pushing "only" 400hp I'm not sure I need it in an everyday street/driver.  :-\

Cheers boss  ;)

Mine is stock, I think about 2,200rpm. That sounds about right eh? Sounds like a lot of work to do to an original car and not see too much of a performance difference. I think I might leave this and spend that money on either rallye wheels or my next MoPar project.  ;D
