Badfish, are you on Rigzone? I see ads on there for MWD a lot. You should check it out. I work in Coiled Tubing. I pretty much just work in Arkansas, but they can send us wherever they need us. I bet working in Canada sucks, it being muddy up there for half the year.

Its not so bad, the cold is hard in the winter, when its muddy there are usually road bands so we can't work, mostly in the spring, but there definately is the fair share of muddy days..lol.

I want to get out of MWD, I'd work MWD a little longer if offered a job down there just to get my foot in the door, but I want to get more into the engineering side, i'm just wasting my education, drilling engineer or drilling supervisor is my goal.   :2thumbs:

You should get your resume on RigZone, they have a lot of jobs in the US, and all over the world. Here is the section for Drilling Engineers

Badfish, you may be able to get into Environmental Drilling (GeoProbe) theres alot here in the states. I used to Drive between East and Midwest, North and South for all of the EPA clean-up work.

Sometimes I miss the job, but then I wonder how I ever held up operating a drill rig in 10* Ice Storms with wet boots.  :eek4:

My only problem is I need a job with a rotation where I can continue to live in Canada, can't move anywhere since I have a son, and him and his mom aren't moving lol.

I dont see how any of you guys can stand year 'round oil rig work anyway. I am used to climate contolled work in a mine now but I used to mud log, not a lot of fun for you guys tripping pipe when its a few thousand feet in the hole but as a logger I sure enjoyed it

Lol, my work involves a few hours of outdoor work every few days, the rest of the time i'm sitting at my computer looking for something to buy or on Cuda-challenger.com, thats the 150-175 days a year I "work", the other 200 days i'm playing with my cars or my son....we don't all trip pipe on the drilling rig...I sit here and watch those poor ba$tards...lol.

well, sounds like you'd make a good supervisor for snubbing since that is what our supervisor is used to doing...lol  He is quitting, so if it all pans out, it'll be my turn!  I cant sit in the truck like that though. I'm too ansy!

Congrats Kevin, hope the job works out great for you. It'll be cool to have a fellow forum member within a few minutes of me!

Yeah Mike, I'm looking at either Conway or Vilonia. Not sure yet, but I really don't want to buy a house up there, so I'm gonna look for a rent house.

I also don't work outside as much, since a coiled tubing rig has a doghouse that is also climate controlled. I still have to go out, but most of the job I'm inside where its warm/cold.

I started today. I gotta go through safety training, mandatory with all oilfield jobs. I will be back to Fort Worth frequently, all my family is there. And if I can find a good job down there, I will definitely be moving back down there. The oilfield is a finicky field though, you gotta be willing to move where the work is.
