70 Cuda Road Lamp Issues

I was asked to take a look at these two unworking setups. Both switches and relays were DOA and the harnesses had some issues. Thought you might get a kick out of seeing the insided of a road lamp relay. Both internal leads were broken off. Once opening and manually pressing the relay closed showed -5 and the other -7 ohms on the output side. Doesn't sound like much, but a dash dimmer switch swings between 0 and -12 ohms before cut off, meaning if this setup worked, they would have been about have as bright as they should have been. I would have liked to have glass beaded and zinc plated these relays, but they weren't mine. These toys are ok now.

One thing I found strange knowing these relays came out of a Cuda and AAR were the part numbers on both being 2889916 and not starting with a 29#####. Those relays must have been used on a B body previously. 

I can't believe the "engineering" back then on some of these parts.

Yea the ole electromechanical relay...One of my first summer jobs at GTE was working around & on a machine that wound those, a Bachi coil winder, about the size of a cement mixer. They were the part that made the bells ring in your phone. You will still find a version on your clothes & dishwasher water valves, although they are encased in plastic.
