A good coating of Cosmoline will keep the rust off. Not storing it directly on the fllor is good also.  Sprayed my 440 HP block 3 years ago after I  stuffed it in a huge plastc bag. No problems..

I used this on my engine short block I just got back recently. It's alot less gooey and greasy like cosmoline is. But you have to re do it every 6 months.

$ is tight now for me so heads won't be ready for pick up for a while.

If you want dead on accurate color for your engine you'll need to shoot it with the right formula. You can buy paint from Roger Gibson restoration. I think it's like 60 bucks delivered. I did a little bit of it on the hidden side of the water pump and timing cover face and balancer before I put it all together. Came out looking great.

Here's an article about paint you should check out before going out and buying paint.

If you don't have a compressor, use a Preval sprayer. They're available at ACE hardware stores.

I have tried Glyptol in engines , I do nto use it anymore , it stared to peel off inside the engine & I was afraid of it restricting the oil pick up
