I bought this car and later found out it was stollen. the dash had been changed and I even got a clear NC title. I live in Wyoming,  had it tag and was driving it. I found the body #s and called it in thinking it might have been stolen. I put about 5k into it and lost it....happy to give him his car back....I blew the whistle on it myself and didn't even need too! I could still be driving this car around Wyoming  What upsets me is he posted a $1000.00 reward for this car and wouldn't pay it...I lost 19,000 dollars!! he got a lot nicer car back that's for damn sure..

If true, you sir are a real stand up guy and asset to the community that deserves all the respect that this board can give you....
the one who got his car back, if he didn't pay the 1000 "reward",  deserves a slap upside the head....

Firstly, let me congratulate you on your upbringing and honesty! You did the right thing, absolutely and it perhaps would behoove the owner to at least pay you the reward and then the two of you could track down Mr Slick, the car thief and perhaps "persuade" him to rebate some of your money! That'd be a priority for me and my two pals, Smith and Wessan. Good luck and thank you for being a stand-up guy.  :2thumbs:

You sir are a class act! I hope you can track down who sold you the car and recoup some of your money! I am a little confused though are you talking about the car the original poster reported as stolen, or a different car? As for him offering a reward then not paying up that is pretty lame I hope he is reading these posts and does the right thing as you did!

I  hope you can trace the path the car took before it came to you, and get  some of your money back.  Are the police helpful with this?
No way I would have any kinda fun with a car knowing it was stolen, but still hats off to you for returning it....  :worshippy
Just wondering... how does this work, insurance-wise?  I guess the original owner had it insured, and got payed?
I think the guy should be whipped in public for not giving you the 1k  :2cents:

If the car was considered an unrecovered theft and his insurance paid him for the car than technically the insurance company now owns the car if and when it's recovered.   A carfax report should show if and how insurance was involved, and possibly the name of the insurance carrier.

That was real good of you to do what you did.  The world needs more honest people like you!  :2thumbs:

Man, this is an old thread.  The original poster posted it was stolen Dec 3, 2009.  :faint:

How did you know where to find this post?  :clueless:

The guy should cough up that reward money!  :2cents:

Why wouldn't this guy post the details of where he got the car?  Litigation?  I figure it would make his story more credible and interesting.
But if his posting is true, I must agree that he is a VERY rare bird.  That level of honesty is worth far more than $19k.  I'm sure he is having a difficult time feeling good in-place of $19k, but he will be rewarded in heaven.
I myself have always been an honest guy.  But during my ladder years, I have been inclined to share "full disclosure" regarding things.  I can tell you, that 100% of the times that kind of honesty has come back to bite me on the ass.  Yet, I still can't push myself to hide things even when I know it will most likely hurt me.
It is hard sometimes to be honest in this world.  But we all need to learn to accept the goodness inside that comes along with doing the right thing.  Otherwise, man will turn back to doing the wrong thing, since we let the right thing hurt us..

There is way more to this story than what has been post.  The police, insurance company's do not full around when it comes to Grand Larceny.  But I'm excited to hear more nonetheless. :clapping:

Assuming all this is true...

Giving up $19k? Tough call...

1) the original owner should have had it insured and been paid out long ago
2) the insurance company, who technically owns the car, has already written off the loss and realized the tax benefits
3) due to the legal issues involved in a car with this past the odds of it seeing a future, besides a scrap yard, are very slim

ie, the interested parties have already been reimbursed, and the damage is already done.

I'm a stand-up guy, but I'm also a pragmatist.

Hopefully I'll never face this particular dilema.  :)
