What hidden antenna brand/style is best?
« on: December 03, 2009 - 02:58:39 PM »
I'm looking at using a "hidden antenna" for the radio on my restomodded Cuda. I see them all over the place -- hundreds of them on eBay. They come in all different styles and price-points. Does anyone have a suggestion as which one might work the best or which one is the best value?

Hey, thanks so much for taking the time to respond. I really appreciate it. I'll check this one out and do some more research... at least I have somewhere to start now. Thanks again.

;)I tried a power anntenna on my 71 cuda and it would'nt fit .It hit the inner firewall(the motor housing ) causing it to lean at an angle.I came this one.

I install a power antenna in the Cuda a few years ago and it works great.

I also used the original chrome bezel and the original crown nut so it looks like a stock unit..

I think he means hidden antennae, not a power antennae. wanting a smooth fender, no antennae at all look. From what I have seen the ones built into the windshield work tyhe best without having a metal pole sticking up, but we don't have any cars we can steal that type of windshield from to fit our E bodies. The stick on ones that work are pretty ugly and defeat the purpose. I do see more and more people getting rid of their radio alltogether and just having an Ipod jack instead or the smaller XM antennae. That way you clean up the inside and outside. maybe an antennae mounted in the trunk under the package tray? That would allow it to be long enough to be effective and not be seen.

You are right... I am looking for a hidden antenna. I really appreciate your response. The new radio I'm getting is completely stock looking but built with modern technology (MP3 capabilities and all). You have some GREAT suggestions. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

Be aware the hidden antennas will not get hardly any signal thru sheet metal so under the package tray might not work which is why I threw mine on the dash as it will get a signal thru glass.

I actually was curious about this very thing, so thanks so much for sharing.

I'm considering on going without radio as the unit I'm installing utilizes updated technology so I can listen to MP3s and such. That makes good sense for me right now since I rarely listen to radio itself when cruising. I'd rather listen to the engine or -- if I do listen to music -- I have a collection of driving tunes that I prefer.

Something I've considered is taking the antenna from a 1997 BMW M3. Not sure if the new BMW's use them, but on a 1997 BMW M3, the antenna is actually a box that is mounted inside the trunk. No antenna ever comes out of the body. And it got great reception! Wonder if it could be adapted to work on a muscle car? Just a thought.

I would like to see this box you speak of.
It would be very nice to not see anything.

Ok, did some research on the BMW hidden antenna, and it's not as good as I thought it would be. Seems the antenna is actually incorporated in with the rear window defogger. Drats. Someday....

i do know this, maybe someone posted this but the jap. challengers/sapporo use the deck lid for an antennae , they had a special wire that attached to the hinge, i used one on my duster it worked ok but not perfect, keep posting here cause i need to do the same thing
