Differences between `72 and `73-76 disc brake set up?
« on: December 05, 2009 - 04:03:29 PM »
I bought a used disc brake set up off what was supposedly a `72 now but I`m not sure if it is the `72 or `73 up setup.Anyone have the casting numbers for the different years?I know the `72 has a different bearing size and usews a different rotor-what is the spindle diameter or any other way of differentiating between thr two-spindle,rotor,caliper differences?

Ok,the spindles measure 1.250" (1 1/4") dia. so they are not the `73 style. The reason I thought it might not be the `72 setup is I went to order caliper pin bushings for a `72 and Napa shows only the larger bushings for a `72 and has another list number for a `73 up.Mine have a large bushing on the inside and a smaller one on the outer side.So now what I need to know is are the calipers different?

Dr Diff sells an adapter that allows you to use the newer 1 piece rotors.

I wouldn`t buy from Jim`s if he was the only source in the world for them, and he`s 45minutes from me!
Got `em from NAPA-UP82307 & UP82314  1.44/pc & 1.77/pc for a total of $12.84 and had them the next day.   :2thumbs:

PS ya think Jim`s has a little mark up at $59.90 for both sides?

 :thumbsup:Try checking for complete calipers they came with all the hardware i believe it was approx. $42.00 each with a ($20.00 core charge) fenco p/n-slc 170 &171. They are  rebuilts. I however learned this after ordering all the hardware seperate which was more expensive. Hope this helps everyone. :money: :money:

I checked the dr. diff website and couldn't find this animal. Got a link or more info?

Thanks

I ran into the same thing.  I called him up and he confirmed that he's still making them.  I believe it was ~ $55 shipped.  Spacer and rear seal.  I'm gonna use it on mine until I save up for Hotchkis UCAs and then I'll install my 79 B-body spindles.

Might be a bit off track here but does anyone have a comprehensive list of parts to change over to 73 A body disc on an E?  I bought some spindles a few years ago and the guy gave me a list with parts numbers of seals, hoses, caliper adapters, rotors(big and small) etc. That computer fried and I lost the information along with the guys contact info. I know I need the adapters off of a 76 and up Cordoba or other B body for the 11 3/4 rotors but thats about it. Thanks for any info.
