The 72 AAR Dream
« on: December 05, 2009 - 07:19:03 PM »
Well I finally got home long enough to take some pics of my recently aquired barracuda.  Ive always wanted one, my Dad being a B-body guy, but gave me the Mopar genetics.  I almost got a 72 back when I was 16 but the bank wouldnt give me the loan...
I knew one day Id find another.  Finally found this one and it had a lot of work already done to it, but a lot more to go.  I always loved the AAR but never cared for the 70-71 tail lights, so, its gonna be an aar look-alike(not a clone) with 72 tail lights, and some custom atributes to make it mine.

Of course, ideas and plans constantly change, but right now Im planning on a triple black kinda deal... 451 stroker, roll cage, complete fiberglass custom interior made to kind of resemble the original, but look more modern.  We'll see.  Also Im working on completing the 67 gtx convertible clone.  That has to be done first, but kind of working on both at the same time...

I already have most of the parts to finish the convertible, still looking for a rh fender, and front bumper. The 440 should be out of the shop by the time I go home to assemble it and get the car running.  The cuda everything except the firewall, but I just found a challenger to donate hers, so Ill be picking that up soon. Any questions or suggestions would be appreciated

I already have the aar hood, so the one pictured on the car is for sale, if anyone is interested

Welcome to the best board on the 'net!  Looks like you've got a nice vision for your project.  Make sure to check out ConfederateCuda's and conv340's builds - they've got some fantastic ideas & craftsmanship to inspire you should you ever hit a rough patch...

The cuda will be triple black, the gtx will be something close to house of kolors organic green.  It should actually be done really soon, by February hopefully.  Ive decided that finding a 67 bumper isnt going to  happen so im getting a 66 fiberglass repro and cutting holes for the turn signals and gonna kind of have a custom look, and also paint in black.

Here are a few more pics

one shows one of my biggest problems, no firewall!
you can see the b5 blue interiorstill stuffed in the car, which will also be getting tossed.

This is the rear bumper that got molded into the tail panel.  Needs smoothed out

This has the new k member showing

Im from Iowa btw, but Im stationed down south so getting back home to work on it is tough right now. But im going back for Christmas for two weeks.  The main things on my agenda are to get the 440 assembled, get the convertible ready for paint, and get all the cuda parts bagged and make a 'to buy' list. something tells me its going to be a long list.  But, Ill also be making a "to sell" list to put a tiny dent in the bill.

Well it's been awhile since I've posted here, or went home to work on the cars, but I've been aquiring parts  for the convertible. Here's the list of everything done to the gtx so far:

Replaced both fenders
New bb torsion bars
Hemi car k member
Reupholstered seats in western scroll
New decklid
New hood
Quarter patches welded in
Driver floorpan welded in
Rear passenger floor pan replaced

Rearend replaced with original 67 gtx hemi suregrip
Front bumper purchased and at tri-city plating right now.

At the moment the car is at paint and body getting smoothed over and painted snake skin green pearl. If you haven't seen it, it's the green they paint the new vipers. I'm also keeping the black stripes original to the gtx.  Getting deleted are the chrome lips around the wheel openings and rocker panels.

I picked up a new top from m&t. Also got a new trunk lock and key because when my dad picked up the deck lid, he forgot to keep the key.  Also got some headlight bezels, gonna need paint and polish but a lot better shape than mine.

As of right now, I'm debating wheel selection. I was tossing around the idea of getting some 15" steels and painting them black. Not that I'm against getting something custom, but I want to keep 15's just for the ride.  I was also thinking about body color steels with polished dog dishes, kind of a classic look but with a modern color, give me some ideas and thoughts!

I'm still interested in the blue interior parts when you "part" with them.
