What's this part?
« on: December 12, 2009 - 01:47:59 PM »
I'm not sure this part belongs to ma 72-challenger. If it does, where does it go?

It is a standard dash light bar. If it had four lights it would be a rallye light bar. It goes above the gauges and floods them in light to illuminate your dash at night.

It fits kind of odd. If I remember right part of it fits up under the dash pad while part of it stays on the outside. I may be wrong but I remember messing with mine and it didnt just bolt up to the dash pad like you would think.

On the picture of 70burntoranget/a it shows that the part is screwed to the frame of the dash, and to the dashpad.
This dashpad of ours is freshly refurbished, and I don't keep the ready-parts at home. So we never would have figured it out ourselves!

Again, thanks for the support, guys!

I also had a brand new dash and the light bar didnt fit at all. We eventually had to put a slight bend in the light bar to get it to fit right. Its not noticeable but if we hadnt bent it a little but there was about a 3/8 inch gap right in the center between the light bar and the dash pad

It should fit in, in this case. They all belonged together originally, but the dash, as well as the dash-pad, has been prepped individually.. May be bent a little, but we will be fine.

The dash frame including glove and ashtray-lids are ready for paint now. We will have the dash and light panel painted by christmas! Next job: gauges and steering column....(oh-oh.....)
