It's That Time of Year Again
« on: December 14, 2009 - 04:54:14 AM »
What does Christmas mean to you?

To me I believe that it should bring families together and the importance of families to us in our lives. As a Christian I also celebrate the birth of Jesus even though it is not the actual birth date.   :angelwings:

I have noticed over the last 50 years a down grading of the family aspect and a more commercialisation of this festive season.   :money:
Also the use of "X" (meaning No) instead of Christ in the spelling of Christmas.

So Merry  Christmas to everyone on this board and a safe break.
Dave

Personally, ALL "holidays" have become nothing more than ways to convince you to spend money, (commercialism) usually in needless and senseless fashion and amounts. Those "holidays" asscoiated with the church have become so seperated from the inital reasoning for their begining they really no longer actually "honor" anything. Why do we need "special and designated" days to celebrate family and personal beliefs? That celebration should be an everyday experience. But "tradition" has replaced factuality and reason. Thus my personal logic and "acceptance" of but two "national holidays",  Independence Day (4th. of July) and Thanksgiving, I give great thanks for my country and those who have served it and protected us, and although daily do so, also give great thanks for the bountiful blessings of my everyday life.  Celebrate family and life every day, and the best "gift" you can receive is giving, anyday you can and have been presented the opportunity.  :2cents:  :2thumbs:

I'm with whitesatinmopar. Most traditional holidays have very little if any serious meaning to me these days. I admittedly partake in the traditional rituals of the seasons and, personally, do not subscribe to any particular faith or lack thereof as I have many friends and family members from different walks of life and whole heartedly respect and care about each and every one of them. I try my best to learn from them as well as understand their beliefs and specifically, during this time of the year, I wish everyone the best. So whatever it is each of you believe in, or don't, I'd like to wish you a Happy Holidays this season and want you to know I send good thoughts your way. :2thumbs:

Merry Christmas!!! Happy Hanukkah!! I celebrate Christ's birth. I wish that all would. But we live in a very diversified world. We tolerate all beliefs (or lack of) in this nation but seem to want to punish Christianinty for the sake of appeasing the others. Live your faith. I believe in living mine. To me Christianity is not a religion but a way of life. Have a joyous holiday however you choose to celebrate, but don't take Christ out of MY CHRISTMAS!! Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!!!

Yes, to me and like to others, Christmas means the birth of Christ.

I believe that the "X" like in Xmas has it's roots in Greek writing or something and still means Christmas, but I would have to research that a bit.

Wages.....where's the Christmas spirit?  We might have to send the Ghost of Mopars Past to visit you......remember when you didn't change my oil....wooooooo....spooky....  :22yikes:
